Wong's vs. Hong Kong is where SoCal punk is from. This is just a pocket in OC. There was real shit in SD and even east county. I snuck into Coo coos nest at 15 with my fellow dickhead friends after hitching up there from O'side. We loaded in the bands waiting to play and infiltrated until that bid black dude rounded us up and kicked us out.
I remember these guys when they came out. I liked them, but kick myself for not getting more into them.
It's too bad they couldn't play pieces of the music while they were talking about it. That would have been enough to make this presentation fun to watch. But now, because of the way life is at the present time, I can't stand to hear people talk. It used to be just certain 12yr old angry girl know-it-all spoiled brat voices telling me and people my age who look like me what is what. Now even people I don't want to smash in the face. people I agree with and even like I don't want to hear yapping more than 20 seconds or so. I only listen to instrumental music lately. Yea I know you have a voice and have something to say, I just don't give a f_ck what anyone has to say anymore!
Evolution
The punk rockers voted for an incestuous pedophile, joe biden. That is what this all boils down to. Bootlickers.
Mesa police are still showing evidence of this assault on their grip.
It was a youth culture. No definition can fulfill the standard of achievement most expect because they have no other choice. OC and growing up in it during the 70’s&80’s can only be described by your own experience. Unforgettable formative years. God saved me from full reckless abandon so that would technically define me as a poser but I was privey to more unbelievable connections than I can even fathom. I’m glad I moved away now as I ve been able to retain a modicum of romance where as the usual trajectory can make you jaded, proud& ultimately disillusioned & angry. I always think about making my own “ Almost famous “ as the baby sitters, neighbors, teenager evolution and the access to the “cool” .#valenciahighschool1982
Love that picture of Todd Muscat jumping over Henry Rollins. Todd went on to play bass for Decry and is currently playing bass for Junk Yard (with Brian Baker and Pat Muzingo).
Hows them covid shots working
So were you a sick boy in so cal? Hence the sickman? Coronaish area?
Do I actually have to explain the relevance of this?🙅
Best song on this album.👍
No words can describe the sadness I felt when I frantically searched for, but never found “Part 3”
shout out to PIL!!!!
Nearly ZERO thoughts or words about the music and the bands. An hour and a quarter of gripes about getting hassled by cops.
THIS ... YES !!
Punk died in 1978. What you did in the states was a pastiche of the sound of Bromley.
Skate punk was happening in many areas around the country at that time. This is a let down to me
I just gotta say I love the way Keith Morris talks
I just think when people say stuff about the violence and bad stuff going on I think it's fucking punk rock if you have issues with that stuff maybe you shouldn't be a punk rocker because every real punk scene has that stuff happen that's the point basically I'm saying it's punk rock bitches deal with it 😅
Imagine if the biggest problem in your city is a bunch of punk rock kids going to punk shows? Must have been a nice problem to have - that one cop being interviewed was actually pretty cool. How depressing to find football jocks are coming to your shows to fight, that sounds like a world of suck.
I have been to The Cuckoos Nest in the 80's..I seen TSOL...The Adolescents..and other Bands..I remember hanging in the parking lot Partying with Punks..They all invited me into their cars or Just hanging out in the parking lot drinking..Loved the Punk Girls. If you were Punk..We Accepted Punks..It was a Revolution..A Union between all Punks that believed in the same things and Rebels of Nature! We all did what we wanted and lived life on our terms..Some people didn't understand because they weren't Wild n Screwed up like we were.. Such an experience.. Which The Cuckoos Nest was our Hangout..Never forget this Club😮😝
I just spent an hour or so trying to remember the name of this band. Thanks for sharing.
Man this video is gold to me!!!! Watched it so much back in the day. Great high school memories. Was always amazed at Rick Howard’s part. Such smooth skating from him before steez was a thing. He just made it look so good 💯💯💯 Many legends in this video!!!!
Punk rock is like the white boy equivalent of Gangsta Rap. Wasn’t too far off anyways.
Arthur Fonzarelli was in a band...
I wasn’t old enough to be there but as an HB native growing up my friends and I looked up to those 80’s hardcore bands and joined the revival movement that was kinda going on in the early 2000’s. My first show ever was the Adolescents with Agent Orange at the Galaxy. That made a big impression on us.
Wow i can just immagine a 3 band punk concert house party afterwards .
Has anyone anywhere at any time heard one punker accuse any other punker of being a misanthrope? Because in 40 years, I've never heard it.
I was a lil kid in Hollywood during the 80s. We heard about punk rock gangs and how they used to stab a lot of ppl. Years later i had a homie who would introduce me to 80s hardcore punk. I liked it. Punk rock artists were extremely down to earth. If a guy went on stage, said "im a punk rock god", and was serious about it, the crowd would probably kick his ass. No other form of music is like that.
talking heads. not the band just the boring fucking generic documentary format.
Now pay attention .. ..this album rocks
Kick teeth 🦷
I have to skip ahead every time Rollins comes on. Unnecessarily over dramatic for no reason. And they didn’t even edit out when he said Cuckoos Nest was in Huntington Beach

huh misses the olympic auditorium shows, before aholes from who cares where, tossed bottles at the lapd from behind the crowd cowards. ruined it for us true fans
Dont disect the hell out 9f it, ok?
the cuckoos nest was not in Huntington Beach. it was in Costa Mesa.
Punk had the best flyers, I was up north in San Jose which had no scene, its never had a scene. So we missed this whole thing. Once MTV came around then things changed. The first punk I heard was dead Kennedy's and I was all in as a fan, wasn't my lifestyle but I dug it, and still do. I'm the same age as all these people. My cousin rich on the other hand is the singer for PTL and The Flames, he's four years younger and that's where the generations are so different by about four years. I stayed stuck in the late 70s early 80s van Halen stuff and he was into the sex pistols and the circle jerks.
I also got jumped in a country bar called the saddle rack in 1985 because I had long hair and a leather jacket, and I was there to see a one off rock group, fuck those fake ass cowboys.
I don't think that you have to be in UK and hate the Queen to be a punk...LA was far from the 100 club however both scenes despite the weather had tremendous amount of boredom and idleness so theres the match. Beats Hippies Metal head to Punkers...raging against the machine...
Being around punks all the time turned Jerry Roach into a punk. He's the real hero of this story
Mannnn we still have house shows in SoCal, best ones are in Anaheim and Santa Ana, 10 cop cruisers, a chopper, and 300 ppl at oranges house show in Santa Ana
People take the “slam” dancing too far like they have something to prove, it’s supposed to be fun not a trip to the emergency room lol
I thought a “red neck” was just a hillbilly with ingenuity?
yes i get the message lol but my god is this music AWFUL
7 seconds, RkL, Suicidals, D.K, rock-on Sk8 or die 🇦🇺 oi,oi,Oi
This era is best for street. Also i can only seem to get good at the tricks from then... couple that with living in an old ass house and sometimes i feel like a time traveler yadig? Heres to my bank-2-parking block session tomorrow at 530AM before my 1st shift duties...
All these documentaries are the same. Cookie cutter edits. Lame
wanna see the 2 min long 50/50 grind in closing credits .....could swear it's s.eye torture..idk
Damn, I'm originally from North County, San Diego but I spent a lot of time in Huntington Beach. I was wondering where I got the punk rock gene. This doc explains a lot.
